Cell Phone 101

By Charles Stricklin · Saturday, April 7th, 2007

I learned several very important lessons regarding cell phones yesterday:

  1. $20 belt clips generally don’t work well.
  2. Cell phones in general, particularly Motorola V3ms, are not waterproof.
  3. When you purchase a cell phone at a discount under a provider’s long distance plan and they ask you if you want to add insurance say, “Yes.”
  4. When your service refuses to extend your contract an additional two years in order to purchase a replacement phone at discount, it’s time to seriously consider just paying the $200 early termination fee and finding someone else.
  5. GSM is better than CDMA.

$200!!!! OUCH! I’d just make some fake military orders or something.

I would check out Verizon’s GzOne Type-V. Its a Mil spec phone thats waterproof and shock resistant. All with a nice screen and a 2.0 mega-pixel camera + flash. Only problem is that it weighs almost as much as a MacBook and has about 2 hours of talk time per charge
