Currently, it is a branch of the Department of Homeland Security. At one time, it would be a branch of the Department of Transportation during peacetime and a branch of the Navy during wartime. Assumably, it would fall under the Navy should the President direct, which he apparently has not done so. ::huh:: On a related note, both the Marines and the Navy are run by the Department of the Navy, but don't be the guy who tells a Jarhead that the Marines are a subset of the Navy.
