WordCamp Dallas Attendee Breakdown
I was looking over the list of registrants for WordCamp Dallas a few days ago, and confirmed what I’d previously expressed only as a hunch: There are quite a few women attending.
Okay, maybe it’s sexist of me to notice, but computers and technology tend to attract more males than females, so I smiled inwardly when I realized the event wasn’t going to be a total boy’s club.
Here’s the breakdown, of the 120 people currently registered, 29 (24%) of them are female:

After that, I started messing around with the t-shirt choices:

I bet I know what you’re thinking. You’re noticing that nearly 59% of all attendees wear shirts bigger than ‘Large’. (I’m one of them, unfortunately.)
Then, maybe you wonder what the women… er… look like…

Whew! It’s mostly the guys who need to eat more salads.
The only thing left to plot (with the information provided) is how long they intend to stay:

So, 93% intend to come both days. That brings a smile to my face.

Wow Charles, this post slipped by me. I came across the link to it via Lorelles WordPress Wednesday news post. At any rate, some interesting stats. I’m also glad that it won’t be a male only event. I hope that those stats for the shirts don’t prove that America really is an obese country
By the way, I’m one of the few who is staying all three days, Fri-Sat-Sun

Yay, as a small t-shirt wearing female, I am part of 1.81% of the total population of WordCamp. (7.24% of the 25% female group).
Thanks for organizing this, Charles. I was worried that it would not be worth it for me as a marketer. As a less technical blogger, I learned a lot. I did just upgrade to 2.5 and am excited at the prospects. I have yet to set up Woopra yet, but getting traffic to my personal blog should be priority #1 for me ;).
I taped Ma.tt’s speech and included the part about Wordpress 2.6 here:

I’ve been looking at WordCamp Dallas (about 8000 miles and a continent away) through Jim P. ’s video podcasts: congratulations, a great show and can imagine the work that went on behind it!. These things are astonishing: Though I’d prefer too have been with the 100 % of you, and would have been in the 64% male, 30.25% Large and 93% Both Days - I appreciate that so much of it, all darn useful, is available here on the ‘net. Great going!

[...] One guy I spoke to during a cocktail reception at BlogHer last year told me that BlogHer was a great conference for single men like him to attend. He said it was “like shooting fish in a barrel.” Haha, I laughed when I heard him say that. Contrast that with WordCamp Dallas, which is projected to be 75% male. [...]
